On Hate

Hate and racism are learned, we are not born with hate, I am a perfect example of this.

Growing up I never hated anyone, it was only upon entering puberty that I began to learn about hate.  First, my parents taught me to hate people who were not the same skin color as me.  Around the same time I began to learn hate from others that I went to school with, I witnessed the division of the different colors of people in my school and the fighting.  I also saw a kid beaten in school for being "queer" (not sure if he actually was).  As the years went by, the hatred of those others grew.  Eventually I found others who hated, I found that I began to admire Adolf Hitler and Nazi's as we seemed to have a common foe in those others who did not look like we did.

And then something happened, I joined the military and traveled around the world.  I spent time in the Far East and the Middle East and fought in a war, all that time, working and playing alongside those other colors and finding that we were not so different.  I embraced learning about other cultures, I wanted to learn everything about the people's whose countries I lived in.  I eventually learned to unlearn my hate and distrust of others and found that everyone I met, whether they were in Japan, Korea, Oman, Saudi Arabia, wherever I had been, that we all were basically the same and the only difference was our life's experiences.

To this day I still battle my inner demons, they want to come out and that is what brainwashing does to one.  If a person is brought up in an environment of hate, they are brainwashed, no, indoctrinated into that club of hate.  It doesn't matter if the family is religious or not, as I was brought up in a Christian family, hate works just fine in any religion.

To break the chains of hate the first step is to get out of the house, get out there, talk to people, don't hide away from the world.  Next, turn off the TV and radio, they are nothing more than propaganda devices, they will only increase the amount of hate you have.  Those in power want us divided, it makes it much easier for them to rule and continue to get away with what they do.  Lastly, learn to become a Freethinker, a person who is capable of freethinking can see through all of the lies in our society.  Read from every source, don't just look for information that fits your idea of how the world is just because its "your" idea, question everything, put it all together, apply Carl Sagan's Baloney Detection Kit to it all and then try to have an idea of what might be the truth.  You cannot be lazy, this all takes hard work.

Anyway, I just wanted people to understand where all of this hatred comes from and that it is possible for people to change, I'm a perfect example of this.
