Cognitive Dissonance And How To Overcome It As An Adult
Don't worry, it is done in just about every nation on the planet, and the US is no different, in fact, the Father of Propaganda was an American by the name of Edward Bernays (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Bernays). The Nazi's learned everything they knew from him, and he was the nephew of someone you all have probably heard of, a man by the name of Sigmund Freud. Edward took his uncle's teachings and decided to use them in the most evil ways possible. He is known as the "the father of public relations", a phrase which they changed from its original of propaganda after they saw what the Nazi's were using it for.
The good news is it is never too late to overcome Cognitive Dissonance, but it takes work, a lot of hard work (don't be intellectually lazy).
The first step is admitting to the problem, don't worry, we all have it, so it's not a big deal (not like being a drug addict or alcoholic), just accept it as part of our nature. The next step is to begin to learn about becoming self aware and learn the practice of Mindfulness meditation. There is tons of reading and videos on the topic, just go find them. I learned mine from studying Buddhism, but psychologists also use it to alleviate issues such as PTSD. Once you begin to learn self awareness, you'll notice when you get angry, you'll take a deep breath or a break, and then return to what it was you were doing, with a now clean mind without Cognitive Dissonance to get in the way of learning.
It's not easy, it takes many years to really become adept at it, but it can change your life. You will begin seeing through all of the lies and see the world as it truly is.
